Turner Sports Cars   2008 UK Turner Rally

UK Turner Rally
Sunday June 22nd 2008
The Manor Hotel, Crickhowell, South Wales

Sunday 22nd June saw Turner Sports Cars once again come together at the Manor Hotel for the Annual Turner gathering in Jack Turners Home town of Crickhowell in South Wales. The Changeable weather did not dampen spirits of owners heading to the Rally with their cars and fortunately the rain held off for the day which allowed the assembled owners and Turner enthusiasts to enjoy the collection of cars at the scenic Setting of the Manor Hotel located in the Black Mountain range of Abergavenny .

In total 12 examples of Jack Turners fine sports cars were on display, many of which were driven to and from the event by the owners on the day. A great number of other cars were also represented by their owners , too many to list individually but many of whom are currently either planning or actively undertaking restorations of their Turner cars , It is always nice to see fellow enthusiasts gathering each year and exchanging information and experience about the cars , and undoubtedly the greatest inspiration to all are the assembled examples in the lower car park which always provides a superb spectacle to see so many examples of such a rare marque gathered together all in one place.

The Highlight of the afternoon as each year was the arrival of Jack Turner, who once again walked the length of the car park inspecting each car on display, and exchanging technical advice and stories of the days of Turner production with the assembled visitors. Jack was reunited again with his former apprentice and Turner owner Ken Robbins , Jack and I were pleased to be able , to present Ken with the 2008 Turner registrars trophy in recognition of his contribution to the Turner marque over the years , both back in 1958 - 1966 when he worked for the company at the Pendeford Airport works , and also today where Ken having found the Turner register in the last few years has since been very active in supporting the register and providing me with a great deal of history and information , while also recognising Ken's stunning efforts he has put in to the immaculate restoration of his 950S following the initial recovery of the derelict car from its remote resting place in North West Scotland , to the show condition example which he now regularly drives on the roads and displays at our club events.

The Crickhowell Turner rally was certainly a great success again this year, and I would like to express my thanks to all who attended on the day and made the event so enjoyable, and Special praise also to all those who bought along their Turner cars for display as without owners making this effort the Rally would not be able to continue to thrive and provide such enjoyment to us all. Also a big Thank You from all of us to Jack Turner for joining us at the rally again this year and making the day all the more special for us.
