Fairthorpe Sports Car Club Turner Rally 2003

The Manor Hotel
Crickhowell, South Wales
Sunday, July 6th, 2003

Once again we were blessed with good weather for the 2003 Turner Rally.  The Manor Hotel is situated in the heart of the South Wales One Mile west of Jack Turner's hometown of Crickhowell.

Turners in attendance, from Left to Right, were:
Chassis No./Type
Owner/Driver
Reg. No.
60/375 MKI (White) Derek Bentley (FSCC Chairman) 2 RTD
60/345 MKI (Yellow) Terry Filby 231 YYC
62/563 MKII (Dark Green) Russell Filby (Turner Registrar) BTU 737B
60/423 MKI (Custard) David Chilton 116JTG
61/459 MKII (Red) John Cullis PSJ 261
62/544 MKII (Lime Green) Ron Taylor 220 WMA
60/291MKI (Dark Green) Nigel Taylor 700 AOV
65/656 MKIII (Red) Brian Shaw GOK 444D
60/381 MKI (White) John Butcher 281 AXO

No less than 12 other Turner Owners were present without their cars

Unfortunately, Jack Turner was unable to make the Rally this year as he is convalescing after a recent hip operation.  However Dave Scott and I took a ride in a Turner down to see Jack and presented him with a Scale Turner MK2 courtesy of Barry Smith.  Get well soon Jack from us all.

Three other Trophy's were also awarded this year.  David Scott (61/480) was presented with a superb award to commemorate his 'Retirement' from the role of Turner registrar after an incredible 32 years.  The FSCC Overseas Registrar's trophy was awarded to Dennis Kawabata (65/646), in recognition of his superb efforts with the Turner Sports Cars website.  And Ron Taylor (62/544) was the first recipient of the new FSCC 'David Scott' Turner Registrar's Trophy which will from this year onwards be presented annually at the Turner Rally.  Ron is the only Owner / Driver to have attended every Turner Rally since David Scott held the first in the mid 1980's in his Turner MKII.

Special Thanks to David Chilton (60/423) for his regular attendance at the Turner rally over the years, David and the Turner fondly named 'Custard' are immigrating to Springfield, Illinois in the United States in the coming months and no doubt David and the MK1 will be making regular appearances at car shows in the USA in the near future.

Many thanks to all who attended for your show of support, and for making the 2003 Turner Rally so enjoyable.

See you next year!

Russ Filby
FSCC Turner Registrar
