We have used the Morris 1000 axle in our Clubmans/Sports Racing Hillclimb and Sprint car. This axle is the same as the Turner but longer. The engine in this car was a 1800cc Xflow giving around 180bhp. The half shafts were hardend, by Jan Freakly, what treatment he used I do not know. Half shafts were now OK but we were braking star wheels. This was cured by straighten the axle (by Mallock Racing) which was assumed to have been distored when the various brackets were welded on. This set up proved reasonable reliable for several seasons, but as Steve Agin mentions, the clutch could not be dropped heavily. Although there are a lot of standing starts in Hillclmbs and Sprints there is little mileage to add to the wear and tear which may account for the for the relatively reliable set up on our car. If you are looking for a good reliable set up I would suggest you speak with Mallocks (tel 01732 741144, England) who have carried out various modifications to these axles for their early Clubman cars.
