Hi. Darcy Nicholson the previous owner on mine 60/365 broke two stub
axels both LF when running slicks and it did not do the body in the
wheel area a lot of good. He tried getting stubs machined up in high
tensile steel drilling the upright out and welding them in but the
upright was not strong enough and it worked loose I have not had any
further problems but am not running slicks and not trying as hard.

Just to clarify, my stub axles (spindle) and king pins are fine.
I
broke the wheel hub - this holds the stub axles bearing and has a
perpendicular flange that holds the wheel studs and also fits into the
drum rotor.
I am running Dunlops 4.5 L - 15s vintage race tires and the 948 is stock.
I
pulled the wheel hub, bearings are fine (will replace and repack
anyway) and the hub looks like the radius bewteen the "hub shaft"
holding the bearings and the flange is "not very smooth".
Maybe I
just got a bad set, but I'd suggest, if you're doing anything more than
easy street driving - I'd suggest a crack test and check-out.
So far, I've heard few occurances of this failure.
I have pix that could be e-mailed if wanted.
