Lorn- I'm not sure that your re-build prices are accurate--they sound quite high unles you are talking about a radical race build. No doubt you'll hear from some climax racers, of whom there are quite a few and I understand they really love those motors. In fact, you may be able to sell yours for enough money to build a super Ford motor/transmission and have quite a bit left over.
The 1500 Cortinas and 1600 cross flow cortinas are relatively easy conversions although I believe you'll be gaining weight while not gaining power.
If you don't hear from some of the Climax racers, contact me directly and I'll give you their email addresses.

: I have a Mk ll with 1216 Climax. I have wondered about pulling the Climax and putting in a newer engine / transmission.
:
The reason being the rarity of the Climax and the ever increasing price
if it needed rebuilding or other major work. I understand a full
rebuild may cost $ 8,000 - $ 10,000 U.S., based on an ar6ticle I read
on Lotus Elites several years ago.
: It is just something I have wondered about for some time and would like to know what would be an easy and practical fit. I would want the option of putting the Climax back in as I would be keeping it and the MGA transmission.
: Has any one any experience with this, I assume as several different engines were available originally that there various options. I would appreciate thoughts people may have.
