I have a Mk ll with 1216 Climax. I have wondered about pulling the Climax and putting in a newer engine / transmission.
The
reason being the rarity of the Climax and the ever increasing price if
it needed rebuilding or other major work. I understand a full rebuild
may cost $ 8,000 - $ 10,000 U.S., based on an ar6ticle I read on Lotus
Elites several years ago.
It is just something I have wondered about for some time and would like to know what would be an easy and practical fit. I would want the option of putting the Climax back in as I would be keeping it and the MGA transmission.
Has any one any experience with this, I assume as several different engines were available originally that there various options. I would appreciate thoughts people may have.
