333 KPP was the Works Demonstrator Alexander Turner featured in many Magazine articles and publicity Photo’s during early 1960 Notably the March 1960 issue of Sports Car and Lotus Owner which can be seen on the Turner website
The car was Bright Red and fitted with all the Alexander extras including the Alloy Cross-Flow cylinder head for the 950cc BMC A Engine.
I have been fortunate to make contact with the cars first private owner Mrs Shelley Leathers (Nee) Marten who has provided some history of the car , however the Chassis Number is unknown, and nothing is known of the Turner after she gave up racing in 1962..
The car was sold by Michael Christie Motors of Aylesbury in October 1960 to Miss Shelley M Marten of Sussex England.
Miss
Marten competed with 333 KPP in a total of 39 races, during the 1961
and 1962 seasons completing all but one race , that being the Autosport
3 Hours retiring with Transmission failure whilst lying 3rd with just
15 minuets to go!
Between March and September 1961 Miss Marten
competed in 22 Races, gaining A few class wins and Places at Goodwood,
Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Oulton Park and Silverstone.
Shelley was one of Just three girls racing at that time , along with Cristobel Carlisle (Mini) and Liz Johns In the Powerful Austin Healey .
Shelley gave up racing after marrying in Oct 1962, and the car was passed on to Rootes Group works driver Peter Jopp who owned a Garage where the car was placed for sale, and there after no more is known about the car.
I would be most grateful if anyone can shine any
light on the cars history after Shelley’s ownership, the current
whereabouts, or ultimately the fate of 333 KPP,
The register also holds some colour film of the car when owned by Alexanders in 1960
