: I have read in the press that Fuel Companies are planning to stop
producing lead replacement petrol in Autumn 2003. This news has focused
my mind on leaded/unleaded petrol etc.

I would be interested in hearing from Turner owners about what they
have done to convert BMC and Ford engines to unleaded petrol or of
their experiences with lead replacement petrol.

Ron,
I
have restored my MkI with a 950 engine bored .040 over and did a
regular valve job with no hardened seats. I also have antique American
cars without hardened seats. I've experienced NO problems with the
engines running on unleaded gasoline here in the States where we have
had unleaded for a number years. However, these cars are not "run
hard". They are only used for pleasure driving. If you intend to run
your car hard or race it, I suggest you have hardened seats put in.
It's not terribly expensive and may be worth it for your peace of mind.
